Quest is fun! Through the day camp activities, children learn to have more fun while counselors assist them to solve problems and increase confidence. Daily sports, games, arts & crafts, hikes, nature activities, music, singing and “Fabulous Fridays” are some of the activities. Instructional sports are helpful to develop increased abilities in skills and sportsmanship. While Quest campers swim many afternoons each week, other afternoons allow activities that are varied, requiring more time to complete. In addition to encouraging group interaction, these activities provide each camper a chance to expose themselves to new interests. Campers may choose to go on an extended hike, create art projects, movies or plays, or play one of their favorite sporting activities.
Check our summer schedule for details. Past trips have included: Six Flags, Waterworld, Alcatraz, San Jose Tech Museum, Alcatraz and Lake Del Valle. Field trips have been developed to provide the most entertainment with opportunity for personal growth within the safety found at Quest Camp.
Quest utilizes a comprehensive therapeutic system that provides a treatment plan individualized for each child. Through observing the child in camp activities throughout the day, staff is able to see how problems present themselves. Staff is trained to provide positive intervention to teach new, constructive behaviors. Counselors provide verbal support for accomplishments and directions for areas of improvement. Campers receive “Quest points” each hour to use in the Quest store for candy and toys at the end of each week. Group therapy four days a week integrates three major therapeutic components. First, behavioral contracts are developed and rated for each camper. These provide direct information of how others perceive their behavior. Secondly the group focuses on the issues occurring between group members, solving problems as they occur. Thirdly, group therapy focuses on particular issues and skill development relevant for each age group to help face their problems more productively. Through this combined therapeutic program, campers achieve improved self-esteem, peer relationships and understanding of their feelings.
